Re: [RC] LQ BLACK AND GREY WATER DISPOSAL & 1/2 TON TRUCK HAULING CAPACITY - RICHARD M levine

Hi Gang!

Noticed the discussion on LQ Warter disposal and the other one on 1/2 Ton Hauling capacity issues.

1. LQ WATER DISPOSAL - You received several good responses. You will be VERY limited as to where you can get bye without holding tanks. Each Municipality and State have their own codes regarding this issue. Your neighbors are another issue as well. A porto potty can handle one problem, but that still does not take care of your Grey or Black water disposal. Your own answer of a portable holding tank, perhaps on on board in the LQ itself or the first stall could take care of that and you can then empty at a proper dump station.

I note your concern about scraping or otherwise damaging a bottom mounted tank on rocky terrain.

LQS built at the factory where the trailer is manufacturerd, or built out by a pro, will have the trailer floor at a level that helps avoid this type of problem. Some even have skid plates to further protect the underside of your systems.

When you add them to a rig that was not pre engineered for them, you can have a reduced clearance issue. There are "Low Profile Tanks" on the market to help offset this problem, so do your homework, and consult a professional on what they suggest and take it from there. Good luck.

2. HALF TON HAULING ISSUE - I am wondering what your owners manual tells you the towing capacity is on your HT truck? You too received some excellent reply, especially from our friend in Oregon regarding stopping this rig, with HT brakes?? The Electric Trailer Brakes can assist but your rig is going to be a key factor in keeping you out of trouble especially in a panic stop situation.
Generally speaking a HT truck does OK, with a 2 perhpas 3 horse bumper pull, once you get into GN Trailers, you would be better advised to consider a 3/4 or even better a 1ton dual wheel pickup.
Having more truck than you need is simply safer. Less tgruck can only get you into trouble.
If you are attemtping to haul more than the mfgr reccomends, you will beat up your Tranny, Brakes, and Engine over time, prematurely.

What is the dry weight of the rig you want to pull empty? What is the toungue wieght spec?
The fact that you have a short box (6FT) rather than a standard 8 ft bed, will also contribute to nose diving on the front end of your trailer.
