Re: [RC] How cold is too cold? - Claire NystromI am certainly no expert, but I've read of lots of riders in Canada that ride when it's -30 or -40 or something equally unimaginable like that. Horses handle cold temperatures better than humans. Since your horses are blanketed, I guess you should try putting a rump rug or quarter sheet on until they're warmed up. Another interesting thing I read once (can't remember where and correct me if I'm wrong), that horses do not have to burn any extra calories to stay warm down to 20F. So at 10 or 15, it's far more miserable for the human than the horse. Being in an indoor, you won't have to worry about the wind, so this will help as well. Good Luck (sounds like you're tougher than I am), Carol =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
