Re: [RC] Horse Color - Zephyr Arabianssandy rovane wrote: A friend recently bought a breed stock paint mare at the auction. Nice, really nice horse. Trail bomb proof. The question is that the picture as a foal shows FOUR WHITE SOCKS. The mare only has two. Can foals be born with socks and then change to solid? The blaze on the mare's head is exactly the same as the foal picture. No. Markings don't change. However, is this a chestnut mare? Sometimes chestnut foals are born with what I call "flaxen feet" which can mimic white markings for a few days. In fact, bays are also born with silver-toned legs, so that could also account for it (depending, of course, on how clear this photo is). How'd an auction horse come with a photo? Is this a photo on her papers?
