Re: [RC] Dabney's diet - Maureen A. Fager

Dabney said "It's completely based on work: the harder/longer, the higher the calories and protein. So, after a ride they get all those goodies--how much and for how long, dependent on work done."

Bruce said "Dabney, you go girl. The horses need the carbs and extra protein after and during a hard campaign, for the reasons Tom Ivers explained here on RC and is his book, Optimized Nutrition. Their bodies are ready to receive those nutrients for tissue repair, and the normalization of their metabolic hormones, glycogen recovery and glucose levels. Too rich for everyday feeding, but good for recovery."

Tom Ivers said "Feed the work."

So Bruce, what do you consume after an "easy" 100? Just askin'.

:)
Maureen
