RE: [RC] what is World Breeding Endurance Championship for Young Horses - Leonard . LiesensHi John and all, This is the World Championship for young horses. At COmpiegne, France. The french federation launched that event 4 years ago. First year, there were mostly french bred horses, with a few belgian, italian and spanish bred horses. France has a good policy for promoting the breeeding of endurance horse, with a qualification and ranking system, starting with 5 years. Several qualification rides, ranging from 40 to 90 kms, for testing young horses. They have also an interesting ranking system which assign stars to sires and broodmares, based on their production in endurance (based on the perf of their offspring), but also based on their own perf on races. Inspired from show jumping... The event in Compiegne has developped and is now the event in the world for young horses. Reserved for horses aged 7 and 8. French horses must qualify during the year by accumulating points on 90kms qualifying rides. Horses onthe 90ms are judged on 4 criterias : speed compared to a determined top speed, recovery, quality of the gaits, metabolic. They receive one star for each criteria. speed and recovery are objective criteria; metabolic and gaits are based on judging by a panel of experienced vets. A good system... only a few get the 4 stars per year and are , business :-) , higly priced. Last year the 12 first horses finishing at the 120km of Compiegne were sold... for very good prices. There were last year horses from at least 15 countries : France, Belgium, Spain, Italy, UAE, Argentina, Russia, Poland, Germany, Qatar, etc... Voila Leonard, Belgium 2006 USEF/Markel Young Horse Dressage Selection Trials (Eastern, Central and Western) for the 2006 FEI World Breeding Championships for Young Horses in Dressage http://www.fei.ch/C/c_01_01.lasso?vID=999 Seems like this is for young (but I don't know how young:) horses. Other events (dressage, eventing, etc) have had these for 20 years or so. endurance was added this year. I don't think they (FEI) have made info re: qualification criteria on-line yet. It's likely something like a 120km event for 5 year olds....although it may be 7 year olds (which is the min age for other championships) ... all speculation till they publish the info jt.
