[RC] Everyone read this please! - rides2farHey folks, There's an idea out there for a new list of the "Top 20 100 mile Horses and Riders of AERC history" that we need everyone's help on. I sort of got volunteered/agreed to be the collector of the info. The idea is to create a list of the 20 top 100 mile horses and riders. What we need are the names of horses and riders who fall in this catagory. To even be considered the rider needs to have completed at least 30 100 mile rides. Horses should have completed at least 18 100 mile rides. Here's the catch. The records only go back so far. For instance, Smokey Killen hardly has any miles in the AERC on-line records. We need for someone who knows where to look and has possession of the old yearbooks to check it out to dig up the old-timers. I honestly do not have the time or inclination to do the research but will collect the names. Let's say you know a horse named "Bud" who you think may have that many, and you have a good idea which rides he would have done them at. You'd need to look the rides up in the yearbooks and list them. The rides are listed. It really helps to have someone who knew the horse or rider in question looking. I could also use a "heads up" on names of horses & riders who are in the records, then we can check them easy enough. If you send info to me please put something like "Attention Top 20 100 milers" in the subject line to make sure I notice it in the middle of all the RC & AERC-Members stuff. Feel free to add anecdotes about the rider or horse. Should make for an interesting article and the sort of stuff we'll all enjoy reading. Thanks!
