RE: [RC] Mileage and Distance in Perspective - Adam and JannelleAdam did a poker ride just for variation with a friend last year. I think it was about 3 miles long...took them THREEEEEE hours to finish it. Adam would poke along for a while and let Heather trot out up a hill and then come back. Our friend was riding a very tall QH that had a TWO mph walk. Little Heather at 14:2 has at least 4 mph walk...when she's just mosey-ing. But Adam bought some raffle tickets and won a bunch of stuff so the day was not all for naught. It's good for the horses to learn to go slow sometimes...right? When my guy "Junior" was a wannabe endurance horse in training as a 5-year-old, I took him to a local poker ride as a way of getting out in public on the trails with him in a relaxed manner as a part of his education. It was one of those affairs where you could more or less start whenever you wanted to, once the trail was open, and having arrived a bit on the late side, we were among the last to start. The thing was 9 miles, if memory serves, and was well-marked with mileage markers. We were just getting warmed up nicely and lined out when we came upon Mileage Marker #1--I was just passing a couple on some rather chubby QHs, and I heard the man exclaim to the woman, "You mean we've only gone ONE MILE??!?"
