==========================================

I lived in 'Ft Howes' country for 8 years and trained
60-70 miles a week barefoot. On many horses - in all
weathers. I always have been & still am a barefoot'er
who has lived in most states from OR to SC & MT to AZ
- 90% of all training miles barefoot - but.. I am usually
blessed with the freedom to choose my footing on a variety
of public or private range lands out my back door. Because
I can't choose the footing on a ride - I usually shoe to
compete. I do think that the commitment to barefoot training
has kept my horses sound and galloping into their late 20's.
Right now I am in country that is VERY rocky out of the bottoms so I choose to
limit my riding to where I can gallop my wonderful horse barefoot rather than
nail on shoes so I can
trek thru rocks. It is great that folks have so many options
and can choose their own way. As long as the horses are sound
and happy goin' down the trail - everyone wins. I am thrilled to see a
successful horse at WEG level but know that on many courses today (even those
in fabulous country) using miles & miles of with hard and/or graveled surfaced
vehicle roads I will continue to use barefoot, but only in country where I have
control of where I go.
