There will be a new Louisiana CTR (Competitive Trail Ride) held this spring. You'll find a lot of the details following. Also feel free to give one of the ride chairmen a call or drop us an email LOUISIANA HAYRIDE Competitive Trail Ride April 9-10, 2005 Kisatchie National Forest Melder, La (near Alexandria, LA) NATRC Type ?A? ride (2 day) Open, Novice & CP Divisions 60 rider limit Experience Louisiana hospitality this spring and ride the shady Claiborne trails in the Kisatchie National Forest. Trails are permanently marked, mostly level, shady with sandy soil and good footing. This NATRC ride is being held for the purpose of raising money to form a Louisiana Equestrian Trail Riders Association. This new group will work for more equestrian access to LA trails and help maintain equestrian trails already in the state. Camp: Campsite is the privately owned 4B Dude Ranch adjacent to the National Forest. Facilities include a large covered pavilion with ceiling fans, tables, serving areas and complete commercial style outdoor kitchen. Relax and visit at the Old West Saloon with A/C, rock on the porch or play cards at one of the tables. Judges and workers have priority for cabin rental, check with Ride Mgmt to see if cabin space is available for riders. Pay camping fees upon checkin. Fees approx. 15.00/night for full hookups; 8.00/night for dry camping. (still being finalized as of press time, check with ride chair for final details). Stabling: Horses will be stationary tied to trailers, few picketing opportunities will be available. Stalls available for rent within sight of the camping area (availability for competing horses depends on NATRC rules as there are ?only? 50 stalls available.) Contact Ride Mgmt for details. Check In: Show ORIGINAL Coggins papers upon arrival and a volunteer will assist you with parking. Pre-ride vet exam will begin at approx 2pm. Friday. Meals: Friday night Potluck Supper/Bring a dish to share and your own drinks. Saturday night: Benefit supper, contact ride mgmt for more details. Entries: Senior entry: 65.00; Junior Entry: 45.00. Plus NATRC fees. Deposits of 30.00 (nonrefundable) will hold your space until March 9 when payment is due in full. Checks payable to Louisiana Hayride Benefit CTR and mail to ride secretary. Send copy of registration papers with ride entries in order to be considered for breed awards. Refunds (less nonrefundable 30.00 deposit) only if ride secretary is notified by April 4th and a veterinary excuse for horse is submitted. Directions: From I-49 (north or south) take Exit 66 (LA-112). Coming from North turn right onto La 112; from South turn left onto La 112. Go 6.7 miles to stop light and turn right onto US 165/La 112/La 497. Go 2 miles and turn left onto La 112. Follow 112 for 7.8 miles to Melder LA. Take a right at a fork in the road by Pine Ridge Baptist Church onto Buckhorn Rd. Follow Buckhorn Rd for 1.2 miles and turn left onto Squyres Lane. 4 B entrance will be straight ahead. From I-10/Lake Charles area exit 44 onto US 165N toward Alex. Take 165 N for 64 miles, turn left onto La 112. Go 7.8 miles to Melder and follow above directions.
