To much of the world our own personal
lifestyles are ostentatious - it's all relative. Two cars and the luxury to play
with horses? How about a bicycle that works, and a donkey that can survive the
demands of working to ensure a family's survival. Take a step back and
a hard look.
Btw - I've heard disturbing rumors that some
believe that we, Endurance Net, are on the UAE payroll, and therefore
controlling and/or enhancing the WEC news to protect the UAE. John and I are on
our own penny (actually I came with Argentina). Lucie came on her own penny. We
are not on anybody's payroll. We have been covering WEC's since Kansas, 1996 -
and every coverage was funded by Endurance Net (i.e. borrowing from the kids'
college funds) or in some cases partially funded because I was also
competing, or working as crew for somebody else.
We do not edit any posts that come through
Ridecamp - either as subscribers or as guest posts. Out of respect for the host
nations, my friends, fellow riders, I have tried in the past, and continue
to try to be careful not to cause injury or embarassment- some of my
personal opinions I will keep to myself, or direct to places where they can be
used constructively, rather than on a public forum.
We did not do this coverage on anybody's
payroll.
We have been invited to stay through
February to cover the Presidents Cup - they are funding our transportation and
room, to the same extent that they fund the invited riders, grooms, vets, chefs,
staff, etc.
Steph
p.s. Lucie - you did a fantastic job!! It
was fun to have you along.

Yes we can learn a lot.....how to spend vast
amounts of money "entertaining" foreign visitors, when much of the rest
of the world is suffering from poverty, homelessness and starvation.
Think India, Indonesia, Thailand, etc. I have always hated
ostentatiousness.
