I don't see you listed in the top standings in any of the regions... yet you have the nerve and temerity to question the strategy of others? I train my horse, and I have every intention of taking him TO THE TOP.. but, I know what he can and cannot do, and yes, I try to ride conservatively, so that when he is 28 years old I can still be competing with him. Does that mean that I am not training or spending the necessary time? OF COURSE NOT! It means that I care more about OVERALL "winning" versus record times. And, keeping a horse out on the trail more than 12 hours is "abuse".. compared to what? If you are doing a 100 mile ride and you finish in less than 12 hours.. does that mean you are NOT abusing that horse? Give me a break..
You mention that the UAE horses compete year after year.. 3 of 5 in one instance.. what about our horses here? Doc... Rio... etc. Don't you think those horses continued year after year? And they weren't "raced".. they were campaigned intelligently. We don't know what the USA riders were thinking/doing when they rode the WEC.. we only know OUR interpretations of it. Perhaps they were doing the best they could.. maybe they had a strategy. But what I do know is this.. NONE of our horses were DQ'd for drug testing.. and I don't think that the riders were going "just for a completion".. they were there to RIDE THEIR RIDE... not the UAE's ride.. and certainly not yours.
Just to enlighten us... how many of your horses have competed for years and stayed sound? HMMM??? Opal Perry
