[RC] "lite feeds" - Patti KuvikHi Debbie ~ Two pounds of TC Lite has everything needed to meet minimum requirements for everything except salt and iodine (adding 2 oz iodized salt/day will take care of this) and vitamin E (could use another 1500 IU). It's main drawback is that it's fairly high in iron - not enough to be a problem if your hay isn't high iron. The Accel you're using has only about 1/4 to 1/5 of the copper and zinc needed. Another possibility would be Triple Crown's 30% supplement - 1 lb gives a higher level of copper/zinc, some extra protein if he's working. Would still need iodized salt, and the Selenium is a bit lower so might also want to add an E/Se supplement. Both of these TC products work well with "air ferns". LMF has a similar product called LMF Super Supplement - would use 1-1/2 lbs, has no iron listed (doesn't guarantee there's none in there). Some of the really concentrated "supplement" feeds like these might not be quite as tastey - adding a little flax can help. I have spread sheets comparing several feeds if you (or anyone else) would like to see them (they require M'soft Excel). He can keep his weight on with = just hay but I worry about him not getting all his nutrients. I have = cut his sweet feed back to a minimum...basically enough for him to eat a = scoop of vitamins (Accel) with. I see where Triple Crown has a lite = feed. It is to be nutritionally fortified so you only have to feed a = minimum of 2 pds a day to meet a horses nutritional needs. Has anyone = tried this feed or any other "lite' feeds? Are there any other = supplements i could feed that would allow me to drop the sweetfeed? http://www.triplecrownfeed.com/lite.php - debbie (MD) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
