[RC] Trail Crew Leader Course - Ridecamp GuestPlease Reply to: Greg Jones giltmead@xxxxxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== I spent a few hours today with a ranger in the Daniel Boone National Forest looking at a section of trail that needs to be reworked. He had attended the AERC sponsored Trail Crew Leader Course a couple weeks ago. (I took it in August.) I have worked with this guy on numerous trail problems for over ten years. His approach after the course was dramatically different than before. We got a complete assessment done in just an hour and drew up a plan that is reasonably sustainable & horse friendly. He was very impressed with this course compared to others he has attended within the FS & freely admitted that they had convinced him that his old ways are wrong. He even admitted that a new trail he laid out last year needs rerouting over 25% of its course. He finally understands why we have been saying its not the horses, its the trail design!
