RE: [RC] When to start the LD25 - Jim Holland

Actually, it makes no sense…and that, IMHO, is part of the problem.  Starting the 25’s on the SAME trail only an hour after the 50’s means the 25’s who DO race are going to blow by MOST of the 50’s running middle of the pack or later.  Therefore MOST of the 50 milers are going to MOSTLY see a bunch of racing 25 milers, and hardly ever see the non-racers. It’s contributes to the “perceived” LD racing problem.

I know it’s not always possible because of ride logistics to start the 25’s late enough to let the 50’s get to the first vet check or start them on a different trail, but I think if Ride Managers would be a conscientious effort to do that, it would make rides safer and reduce the conflict.

Subject: [RC] When to start the LD25

In every ride I've personally attended in the SW, the LD riders go out one hour after the 50's.  IMO it just makes alot of sense.  Less confusion at the start and at the vet checks.
