Re: [RC] Toxic amount of acorns? - Truman PrevattThey are toxic but only for a few hours. The leaves got through a short period while they are dying where they produce cyanic acid - which is toxic. However, after the leaves are dead there is no problem. While they are alive there is no problem. When they fall off the tress they are harmless. The only problem is when a limb breaks and falls into the pasture and the leaves start to wilt.I watch for that. The few times it has happened the horses completely ignored the limb and leaves. We had some concern at first but the horses tend to just ignore the cherry trees. Goats on the other hand have been know to try to eat any and everything. Our neighbor lost a pet goat that ate the leaves from a downed limb from a cherry tree.
