Re: [RC] Toxic amount of acorns? - Karen SullivanAngie, a good friend lost a pony to acorns. It's not just the tannic acid that's a problem....but the acorns inside the gut pack into a solid, oily mass....I have heard other horses also colic from acorn-impactions here in Calif, too....in my friends case, fluids couldn't move the impaction and the pony was put down.. I would most definitely run it past your vet, and possibly try to keep the horse out of the acorn area until the local wildlife (deer, pigs, turkeys? whatever) clean them up.... Out here in Calif, also, having horses under oaks also subjects them to oak mite fungus... Good luck! Karen ----- Original Message ----- From: <rides2far@xxxxxxxx> Need some advice. Saturday, when I went out to feed Kaboot he just stood about 10 ft. away and didn't offer to walk to his bucket. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
