Yes, Ann, I couldn't agree more.
For me, the hallmark of civility is not how folks treat someone who comes
across as being "civil", but how those same folks treat someone whom they
perceive as being "uncivil".
And, one last thing and I will shut up about this...the true
nature of a human being cannot be discerned when there is great physical
and emotional suffering, particularly when medications are being used to help
the physically aggrieved to just get through the days and nights, and, when
coupled with the knowledge that, ultimately, Life will leave the afflicted too
soon, one has to learn to look beyond the smoke screen of anger and
condescension to find that place where true sadness and contrition
exist.
Compassion, which we all so readily flaunt as being a hallmark of our
"great horsemanship and caring", should be unconditionally extended to every
human being, whether we believe it is "deserved" or not.
This country needs more civility, AND, THANK YOU, I'll shut up now.
