[RC] tivers - Steph TeeterI'm also very sorry that Tom is 'really' gone. He's been sick for so long, just seemed that it would never really take him. Tivers joined Ridecamp back in the early days, but left after it became obvious that it was 'not' about hard science and started his Horse Science list. Tom's style never really bothered me, his abrasive and agressive manner (especially when challenged) was so 'out there' that it never seemed offensive, and more often made me laugh. There are so few of these special strong individuals - with the talent, guts, ability, intelligence, whatever - and the willingness to 'go for it' - that I think they deserve a special status. Right or wrong, to have such energy, dedication, conviction - this is powerful stuff. And if in the pursuit of their goals they do keep some of us regular folk more attentive, inspired, questioning, then we should be thankful. And probably we learn something along the way. I think Tom's contribution to equine science - training, excersize physiology, the hard work and discipline of preparing the equine athelete - was significant. I do thank him for that. And will miss him, and will miss that little whisper (I wonder what tivers would think about that) that seemed to always be there, at least for me.
