Re: [RC] Saddle fit - Laney HumphreyI fear you've fallen into the common trap of thinking that all horses of a particular breed are shaped the same. Each horse, just like each person is their own unique shape! I'll agree, though, that there are similarities within a breed. As for your custom made saddle, I would definitely discuss how it fits, and doesn't fit, with the company you bought it from. If it truly custom made, they should make it right. Just for your info, the shape of the swells of a saddle have nothing to do with how the tree of the saddle fits the horse. The swells are on the top of the saddle and that's the rider's side of the saddle, not the horse's! If you like Aussie saddles for their security, chose a dealer or two and talk with them. Traditionally, Aussie saddles were narrow because the horses they were originally built for were narrow but today's Aussie dealers offer a pretty wide range of saddle shapes. But...make sure you can return the saddle and get your money back if it doesn't fit! And make sure the dealer understands the entire shape of your horse's back, not just the shape at the withers. Gaited horses are shaped differently from Quarter Horses or Arabians but, from what I've heard, many gaited horse owners use Aussie saddles.Good luck!
