Really? I have several of them…planting
more next spring. Never noticed ANY smell, even sniffing the blossoms
directly. Must be a different species where you live. They are the first
to bloom in the spring, bright red in the fall. They’re not troxic…..if
they were, my horses would be dead long ago. They grab any limbs they can reach
over the fence and eat the leaves when they drop in the fall.

I don't know about toxicity, but I know I hate bradford
pears. I think the smell of the blossoms is one of the grossest smells in the
world. Gack! And my neighbor planted a bunch of them right on the property
line. One more reason to choke him.
