[RC] Dear Rob: Rude Riders - Cindy CollinsRob, welcome to our wonderful sport. I'm thrilled that you have practiced so diligently and attempted to prepare your horse for rude riders. However, I expect that some day you'll be on a narrow trail, with no place to get off safely when some inexperienced, or just rude, rider(s) come along totally out of control and crash into the back or side of your horse (perhaps also a young or inexperienced horse/mule). Hopefully, you and your horse will not be injured. I imagine, though, your attitude may change. I do agree with a previous poster that I hate rides starting LD riders 5-15 mins. behind 50/100 milers on the same trail. Some of my favorite local rides do this and I beg them each year not to...with no luck. With a young horse in a 50 miler, I like to walk out of camp, then slowly pick up a jog...very much like XP riders start out. There's nothing worse than having a group of four or five 25 milers come galloping/racing up behind you a mile out of camp. It has happened to me over and over. Perhaps this has affected my opinion of LD rides. Please let me say that I do know that many LD riders are careful, responsible horsemen. Sadly, I don't get to see many of that group. This thread has deteriorated into a bashing of LD riders and I'm sure that's about to blow up on us ONCE AGAIN. However, I'll use this forum to BEG ride managers to start LD horses at least 30 mins. behind the endurance horses. I would be so appreciative.
