Re: [RC] WIDE horse saddle trouble - Dyane SmithCarol Suggs wrote: Also if we look at where our girth/cinch is that can help clue us in as to if the saddle is too far forward or not. What I found with one of mine is that the girth area on him faked me out. He has a very big belly (even when extremely fit) and the narrow area that the girth automatically wants to be in was too far forward. Making sure that the shoulders can freely move is also of importance. Yeah, that was the rest of the problem. That horse is retired now (27 years old), but now, knowing more about saddles, I think I might have looked for a saddle for a gaited horse. He had a huge stride and I never really found a saddle to fit. OTH, I could ride with the girth so loose that you could fit your whole hand in, up and down steep hills, so he escaped the worst of bad saddle fit. Now, I am waiting to see if my second horse plans to stay sound long enough to indulge in the Great Saddle Search, but Diane's and Carol's information are key.
