Proportionally I would have to find an 18 pound person to get on my back to compare my weight/pressure on my horses.

Here is a little experiment to test the quality of
your saddle pad. Find someone with a bony butt who
weighs less than you so you don't get hurt!  Get down
on all fours (preferrably with an ottoman underneath
for support if the person is close to your own weight)
and have that person sit just below your shoulder
blades for 5 minutes or so and bounce/wiggle around
now and then.  Note how their butt bones dig in after
awhile?  Now, do the same with your best pad between
their butt and your back; 5 minutes again with the
bounce/wiggle.  Did the pad distribute the pressure
over a much (and I do mean much) wider area?  If it
didn't then you need a better pad!  What you are
feeling is what your horse feels when you ride.  (hey,
my horse told me this - in the dream)

With a treed saddle, that's what your horse feels from
the tree pressing just behind the shoulder area;
with a treeless saddle, that's what they feel from
your butt bones when you sit on them - maybe even
moreso.  Remember, a horse's sensitivity and 2-point
discrimination in that area is MUCH, MUCH BETTER than
ours!

And then my dream ended. I think my horse has some Mr.
Ed blood in her.  :-)
