Re: [RC] BCAa - Sky Ranch

Do horses that are dosed with this rich protein/carb mixture have a problem with loose stools/diarrhea?  Sure seems like they would - whether or not they were lactose intolerant.

Tom/Ridecamp,

I'm curious as to your thoughts and/or any scientific information on utilizing BCAa (Branched Chain Amino Acids) on equine athletes, be they racehorses, endurance horses, etc.

Thanks,
Sandy

Definitely useful for post-ex recovery dosing. Nowhere near as important as carbs, though. Some possible benefits as a pre-race, but fairly low-grade benefits. A good protein with balanced amino acids is useful in the daily ration. The best being whey protein. Some horses, like some people, are lactose intolerant, though, and the preventative approach would include lactanase in the mix. Dr. eleanor Kellon ( Drkellon@xxxxxxx) would be a good advisor in that arena.
