Re: [RC] giving horse time off - Don Huston

My version of giving a horse time off means no structured vigorous training but I still ride the horse on fun 3-4 hour hacks, trailer to the beach, mountains, desert, easy stuff, walking, light trotting, night rides. If I come across some good grass I get off, unbridle and let the horse graze for a while. A cowboy buddy of mine called these "nerve rides" cause once a month working cow horses were taken out of rotation, ridden out a ways, unbridled and let graze, ride some more, let graze, etc. to break the work routine and settle their nerves. Works for me too. Don Huston
