I love our set up, we started with a 40 x 30 steel building, and added on a steel half round building to the south side... we have an opening cut into the south side of the steel building so the horses can run through the steel building, from the East, as we cut an opening there too, into the half round steel building on the south... that area can handle 6 horses easy... then on the North side of the Steel building we have a large area with a large sliding door on the east side, until this year, I used this 18 x 20 area as my stall / double feeding area only, now I have had to make two herds, I have two 14 year old dominant geldings that Fight... anyway when the door is open, it allows 2 horses to stand together, if they like each other, LOL... it is about 20 x 18 so I also feed two horses there, I put up a wall mount feed bin at each end, and a tie rope, I hand a hay bag for them when I feed them only... I halter and bring in 2 horses, I also have another spot that is past/ to the west of this area that has the same set up for one horse to feed... so I can feed 3 tied at once...

also to the west of the barn is a hay loft that runs North and South and is about 14 feet deep, under this area is storage to the North, Feed to the South and a Chicken stall... one could put short horses under that as stalls, I elected not to... I can feed in two shifts, the herd of 4, 3 come in and get tied, one stays out and eats off the ground in a feed tub...

and the herd of two, I can bring them in and tie them or just give them each a feed tub to eat from, giving the dominant one a little more feed to keep him from stealing the mares food...

I love it... in an emergency, I could put up panels to make a stall somewhere... Which I have been known to do, but now, I have figured out that they are all happier if they can get under cover if they want to, so need to have a stall... Except for an emergency situation... sick horse or something...

I hope this makes sense, my half round must be, 25 x 30 long... the horses love it... it seems to always have a nice cool breeze moving though in the summer, which the horses LOVE... in the winter it has been warm with the large door shut, we will see this year when it is open... darn boys, why can't they get along???
