I really prefer motor homes as I also go places
without my horses and it is easy to park at Wal Mart or a rest stop and not even
have to leave your vehicle. I have been towing a 4 horse stock trailer
with 2 horses with a Ford 460 which has since been replaced with the V10.
Mine is 33 feet and with the camera is easier to hook up the horse trailer than
with my pick up. I am alone now and so have to do it all by myself.
It is SOOOOOOOOOO nice to have the room for the saddles etc and get better sleep
the night before a ride. I bought a used one and so have repairs.
However, I do not have a monthly payment. There are a lot out there
right now. Don't expect to get very good gas mileage. With a
gasoline engine anywhere from 6 mpg to 10. With diesel maybe 12.
Going long distances and not staying long really adds up to a high daily
cost. ie if I go from TX to NC and only stay in NC one week, may as well
drive myo pick up and get a hotel. However, it is really nice being out on
a moutain top looking at the stars and still having the comforts of home.
We do pay for our luxuries, dont we?
A good side is that I RARELY have to worry about
speeding tickets-LOL Some diesels pushers can really go however. I
suggest you make a list of what you think you really need: ie power, fuel costs
vs size and comfort and how long you will have to make payments, etc. They
really are not that hard to drive, especially if you already have been towiing
with a pickup.
Last Aug I drove 2200 miles over the Rockies.
Went very slow on the 4%-6% grades but then I just lined up with the 18
wheelers. If you want to go FAST, get a pick up for towing. Good
luck. Email for specific questions. The is my 3rd motor home.

Ok, have 2 kids now competing with me and the
camper is getting kind of tight....so looking at used Class C motorhomes for
next season. Any advice? I have to haul a 3 horse slant that is not really
heavy but will have 3 horses in there. What size engine should I look for?
What length is good? Shorter? Longer? (I would prefer something around 20-24'
if possible) What kind of modifications do I need to make to the tow bar and
is it expensive? If you've had problems with towing with an RV, let me know.
Should I just get a bigger camper?? I need to find something bigger for us 3
this winter and CANNOT afford a horse trailer/living quarters, so don't advice
that. Thanks!
