Congratulations on completing 215 endurance
miles on a horse that others thought might never be sound.
What happens when you wade
into streams or cross rivers while riding and your horse is wearing
wraps? Can't imagine that they wouldn't sag horribly -- or become icy
during cold weather. [I know nothing about wraps -- have never used
them.]
What is green cool? My understanding
is that applying anything with menthol (actually, anything except alcohol or
Absorbine) to the horse's legs before a ride is not legal for AERC
competition because these products contain ingredients that would or could be
absorbed through the skin.
I rode my gelding on trail Monday, only about
eight miles or so. He seemed okay to me then, but the vet did say
that the mild suspensory injury he has would be much less stressed by
trails (at least our trails around here) than by the soft footing of the
dressage arena we were in on Tuesday.

When I bought
my mare, she had pulled a hind suspensory for the second time from
racing(harness racer). They had done quartazone shots and x-rays and
everything on her. I bought her personally because I loved her and
didnt really care if she ever became endurance sound.
What I have
done.. and this has worked very well for me is I make sure I hose her leg
before I ride her for about 3/5 mins. Then I rub green cool on her
leg and then groom her to give her time to dry off. Then I polo wrap
her hind legs, to keep them even and the wraps help the swelling, because
sometimes she swells a little but is not lame.
When Im done my
ride, I do the same thing, take the wraps off, Hose and greencool.
She has now been sound for 7 months undersaddle and has completed 2 15
mile edurance rides and pulled in will A's and B's.
Each horse is
different.. but this works awesome for my horse and considering the vet
wasnt sure she was ever going to be race or riding sound again I am happy
with the results!
Also, one other thought, I also stable bandage my
mare when her leg does bug her.. it seems to help to have that extra
support.
Hope this helps,
Good luck with your
horse!
