Re: [RC] truck campers and long bed vs short bed trucks - JonniEd posted: >>>How many miles will you tow? It takes lots of miles to make up for the better fuel economy of a diesel. Especially since there are more frequent oil changes and more oil.<<< When we got our diesel, we had been told how much more expensive the oil changes were, and how they are more often etc. But, we found that we change it every 3000 miles, which is recommended on any truck that tows a lot. Also, it has only been $65 each time at the DEALER. Yes, we use the dealer for our regular maintenance! <gasp> . We have also replaced fuel, and air filters on it. We have no spark plugs or plug wires to change etc. like a gas motor does with regular tune ups. Ours has 90,000 on it, and it has been less expensive to maintain that I had expected. As far as the fuel prices, it will be interesting to see if diesel stays above gas, or if it eventually drops back down again. But, as I said, everyone has different needs for their truck. This is our first diesel, and we have been very, very please with it. Got it new in 2001.
