Re: [RC] Dressage horses - Lucinda CarpeThat is great. I have a 14.2 H purebred Arab who has been very successful in dressage. He also trail rides and never has worn shoes. I know all of you are very tongue in cheek when you mock the dressage riders. I always defend the endurance riders when I hear dressage riders take a knock at them. I don't think that people who are expert at one discipline should take a bite at others. There are a fair share of bad feet in all breeds. One could take a swipe at the AQHA people with their pony sized hooves and horses travelling with their noses on the ground. Or how about the Arab halter shows with the horses being terrorized so they will look beautiful? Let us not leave out the gaited horses with their horrible long toes. There is some very questionable horsemanship in the Endurance world also. A young dressage rider just got a bargain on a NSH mare. Top $$$ (asking price) was turned down by the seller because the prospective buyer mentioned they wanted to use
her for endurance.. As you can see the endurance riders get a bad rap sometimes also! Well the Warmbloods are having their day in the sun (Remember when you still paid $$$ for a poor qualityArab?)
I never have had to apologize for my Arab in the dressage barn. He is a second level horse and has miles of talent to go on. Right now he is more clever at dressage then I am so he is stuck at Training leve with me. I have always shown him open and he consistently scores well.
I must say I am a little offended by someone showing any horse in dressage without any commitment to the discipline. It is not something you just take up on a whim...well if you do you probably will not do very well. That is why it is called a DISCIPLINE. Trust me ...it looks easier then it is. /Lucinda
