Re: [RC] boarding agreements - Sky Ranch

Wouldn't it be better to educate this nice man? Even if you do somehow get
a 'binding agreement' that he's responsible (I find that unlikely) is it
worth crippling your horse or having to put your horse down due to a
horrible injury?

Subject: [RC] boarding agreements

I've just moved my horses to a new boarding facility. I'm keeping my
fingers crossed that it will work out well because it is 5 minutes from
my house instead of 1/2 hour over narrow, twisty roads. The fuel
savings will be huge!
The downside is that it is owned and run by a man who knows essentially
nothing about horses. He just has the land and has fenced it. He is
very willing to learn and is a nice guy so that's good. But he is so
unaware that he sees nothing wrong with leaving his saws and wood cart
and other implements lying on the ground in the pasture with the horses.
What I'm wondering is if there is a way I can insert wording into the
boarding agreement that would hold him responsible for injury to a horse
caused by his negligence. All the agreement forms I've found absolve
the facility owner of all responsibility. I can understand this when
they are knowledgeable horse people but I'm afraid this guy is going to
do something, in innocence, that will cause a horse to get injured and
I'd like to be able to protect myself financially, since, as I keep
telling him, it's me, not him that will be paying the vet bills!
Thanks for your insights!
Laney
