Re: [RC] [RC] heart rate monitors - AprilThe short answer is yes. Now the long answer. There are 3 ways to do this that I know about. First, just get a long horse-sized chest strap and position the transmitter to pick up the heart rate. This is what I do at vet checks. Second, use the transmitter under the girth. I don't like this method as I don't like the transmitter under the girth. Too bulky. But I have talked with people that do this. Third, spend $55 to buy a converter kit that will allow the use of large flat electrodes. One goes under the saddle and the other under the girth. I use this method under saddle. The converter kit can be had from Roger Rittenhouse at http://www.vmaxept.com/. You want the "STRIP TRANSMITTER ADAPTOR LEAD KIT" referenced on his front page. Comes with directions and works great. I have 2 strip transmitters. One for use at vet checks and the other that is adapted with Roger's kit. For what it's worth, I use the Garmin 301 integrated GPS/HRM unit and I love it.
