[RC] how to rig a field trialer's stakeout - Ridecamp GuestPlease Reply to: Ray O'Donohue rno2m@xxxxxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== It is so hard to type out a description that will give you a mental picture.I really should get someone to shoot some digital photos of the thing. Get two big bronze swivel snaps.A 1/4"steel cable 14 feet long is passed through a VERY STIFF hose12 feet long, and passed through the bronze snaps and clamped with two cable clamps, and the slack is passed back into the hose. You now have a tangle-proof line, which you can use by itself to snap to anything handy, but which works best in the following way: Get an old truck axle from your local auto mechanic. This will be free.Get somebody to grind a point on it.That will not be free, probably. Get an old truck brake rotor. That will be free. Now,here's the hard part. You need a large steel ring of some sort, about 6-8" diameter, made from about 5/16 "stock. Your farrier can make one for you.Tell him to bend it into an oval when he's done. You're all set. The rotor faces down on the ground. The axle goes through the ring, through the rotor, and is driven into the ground-but only 2/3 of the way!. One snap goes onto the ring and one snap goes on the horse.Your horse will love his tangle-free 24 foot loafing area.Hay and water go at the outer edge of the ring. To pull it out, walk around it and kickit or hit it with your maul. Then turn it with your hands and it will come right out. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
