Re: [RC] Pros and Cons of confinement systerms - Truman PrevattMarinera@xxxxxxx wrote:For people that tie to a trailer or use one of the Hi Tie systems, if it is possible for your horse to roll, please be sure you have covered up the wheel well some way. I saw a horse roll while tied to a trailer, get a rear foot caught up between the wheel and the fender. It took four people to get his leg out and the damage was permanent. Julie Suhr I saw pretty much the same thing happen. Fortunately someone saw him when he did it and went over and kept the horse from trying to get up and send someone for a vet. They tranq'ed the horse, someone laid on his neck to keep him down while they jacked the trailer up and removed his leg. All turned out well but if an alert person had not have seen him and reacted, it would been a broken leg I suspect. There are pitfalls in every confinement system. Any of them are only as safe as the horse's training to use it and the wisdom shown by the used in it's placement with respect to the traffic flow in the camp.
