Re: [RC] Pros and Cons of confinement systems - Don Huston

So what are the pros and cons of the different types of confinement at endurance rides. Hi Tie, picketline, corral, electric, etc.

Not all types of confinement will work with every horse. I started doing endurance in 1996 and have always tied my horses to the trailer with no problems. When tired my horses lay down next to the trailer and get up just fine. The pros are(adds no weight to trailer)(no setup hassles)(takes least amount of space in camp)(no take down hassles). The cons are(messes up the side of the trailer)(trailer cannot have latches, handles etc sticking out to catch the rope on)(a horse can hurt itself anywhere at any time with any confinement). Based on watching other horses using the HiTie it seems to have all the pros listed above and safer because it gets the horse away from the side of the trailer. It will be my next trailer mod.
