[RC] thrush - AgilbxrI got a call thursday from the lady that was leasing alpine that she wasn't able to keep him anymore for financial reasons, could I come get him. So, I called my favorite boarding barn and a friend with a horse trailer, and went out there to pick him up today. He's been with her for about 4 months, and looks pretty good, in nice weight, just a little scruffy from his coat growing back after being clipped. I went to clean out his feet though and found the worst case of thrush i have ever seen. Half the frog is sloughing off, it stinks, and he's painful from it. AGH! So, I stuck all four feet in a bucket of bleach water, then scrubbed them with nolvasan, applied more bleach water, dried the feet, and turned him out into the nice dry sand. Any other ideas? The thrush is in the cracks on the heel bulbs, and he's off on his front feet...kind of tippy toey on hard surfaces. He has no frog in contact with the ground...as a matter of fact the farrier is going to have to dig for good frog right now. I have never seen it this bad, so did the best I could with what I could get on a Sat afternoon. Usually, if he got a little thrushy, it was spray with light bleach water and koppertox the feet...but I think he's a bit beyond that right now. Help! Suggestions, ideas, anything. My poor boy wishes to be sound and happy!
