I don't see any reason why horses shouldn't dig holes to amuse 
themselves. I admit it is an odd amusement, but I notice my horses get 
pretty creative at amusing themselves. Now if they were digging them 
with their teeth, I'd worry. But maybe the idea of doing something with 
their feet other than walking on them is somehow pleasing. All of the 
critters in my menagerie do somewhat bizarre things at times, but 
otherwise appear relatively normal.
