[RC] WEC: Gate 1(1) - John TeeterThe sun has risen across the desert. A bit of a haze - maybe it's the sand that's been kicked up by the riders as they move out through the dark. The first loop was pretty firmly controlled (re: vehicle traffic) by the Local police force. There's a regiment just across the road - they are serious folks. but the ride. They are riding from the sun into the gate area. The crews are ready (many standing huddled in the cool morning air. Australia is to the North (my left as I look out the window of the starship dubai:) (it does feel a bit like a control room of ... well, we're really more down on the third deck - the tv guys are up in the control room ... i digress. Australia on the right .. UAE on the left. US is square in the middle. Jordan, ... looks like it's going to stack up two tiers (at least. There are 27 teams (I'll verify that count next chance I get) - and 41 countries (Lithuania didn't vet in:( so each team will clearly have a spot to stake out. There are 16 ingates (and 4 departure gates) here. There is plenty of room. The general procedure is that each rider will have one crew person assigned to take their rider card (a smart card) from the rider and handle the logistics of in-timing. That person will keep the card throughout the hold. The rider doesn't have to think about it. The first two riders are in now. Looks like a UAE and a Jordainian. More coming -- of course, there will be 100 riders through here in a few minutes.
