[RC] Wed. Jan 26 Lucie's Notes 4 - Lucie Hess

I realized I need to start numbering my posts.  This is number 4.
Last night was the Opening ceremony.  It was very nice.  It was held after dark.  It reflected the Arab culture and celebrated the Arab horse.

There were a large group of girls dancing to middle eastern music.
on the grounds were over 40 Bedouin tents that would light up and display ea countries flag.   There was a mounted drill team of approx 40 horses who rode in full Arab regalia and did very complex drills.  It was great to watch and very stirring.  At the end  of the celebration, they all rode in, each rider carrying a  country's flag.  The name of each country participating was called and the rider cantered across the arena.  The speech making was in Arabic and in English except for the last part.  I couldn't tell you what it meant, but it was stirring.

After the ceremony all the audience was invited to a party, where finger food was served.  There was enough for all.  I enjoyed the middle eastern goodies, all different flavors than I'm used to but yummy!  I kept noticing several of the women in the crowd all had on the same scarf,   I asked where they got he scarf and was told that everyone was given one on entering the area.  After the ceremony, I went straight to the front entrance and asked for two as Steph and I were already in the venue.  The men there were generous and handed me two with no questions.   I'm sure it was my winning smile, that did it.

The scarf is cashmere and very warm.. Money seems to be no object here.  Today I watched the Trot in   All 6 horses made the squad, with 4 horses to be picked later for the squad.

Gotta run and find lunch...  More later.....
