Dolly I certainly don't have any numbers--but consider that gargling with salt water is a reasonably effective means of killing bacteria causing sore throats, etc. It all depends on the concentration of the e-lyte solution and the tolerance of the individual bacteria involved. But think SHORT times (minutes) vs. long times (hours or days). Additionally, the problem would continue in the gut until the e-lytes are diluted/absorbed and become isotonic with the "concentration" in living cells.
