Re: [RC] rearing horse when saddling - Truman PrevattSuzanne Boyd wrote:I once had an Arab gelding that would stand perfecting quiet for tacking, until I girthed him up. Then he would pop up on the front and fall over on his side. The first time it happened I thought he had a heart attack and was dying. It happened so many times that I quit tying him for saddling. This horse would also buck like crazy when first mounted. Then he would be totally fine, a complete sweetheart. I learned to cinch him up *SLOWLY*. I mean, really, really, slowly. If I took a 1/2 hour or so to cinch him up he was fine. I would recommend you try this method. It was a pain in the a$$, but sometimes we need to cut our horses some slack. I would not flip this horse over backwards. If the horse is a sweetheart in every other way, he is trying to tell you that something hurts him.Might think about girth with elastic on both sides. I had a horse who felt "trapped" by a tight girth and would panic and buck when he tried to expand and couldn't. Elastic on both sides really helped with him. Truman
