RE: [RC] Pull Codes - heidi

Heidi,
Again, why the negative comment "get over it". It is just a discussion on an
endurance list about an endurance related subject. Why can't be be varying
opinions on pull codes - are you not willing to participate in a discussion
of differing opinions on this subject without comments like "get over it"? I
am just giving a possible reason for discrepancies in pull codes, my opinion
on one reason why they may be happening and suggesting a solution. I already
wrote that we can agree to disagree. I respect your experiences and opinions
but I just don't agree with you. Why can't you respect my experiences and my
opinion. Why do I need to "get over it"?

Kim, I find comments as "riders punish horses" when pull codes are
published, and pull codes are "abused by riders" to be incredulous and
in the realm of fantasy, not to mention very negative. So I suppose I
could ask why people don't "respect the system" and "respect my
experiences and opinions" as well. But I don't. I just shared the
opposite viewpoint. You still haven't explained to me how anyone can
"abuse" a pull code, or how riders skew the system. I am still trying
to visualize this, and I can't I've asked you to cite specifics, in
an attempt to get participation in this discussion on a level other
than "whining" and such. So far such specifics have not been
forthcoming. I'd like to understand, truly I would. But so far I've
not read anything but generalities and rhetoric.

In my opinion, comments like "whining" and "get over it" don't do much to
encourage discussion and participation on the list. Maybe that's is what is
wanted - I don't know. Maybe I should have responded to Ed's post on pull
codes privately. No big deal - if that is the case.

Bottom line--vets should be assigning the horse-related pull codes, and
communicating that information to RMs, who in turn record it. I am
still interested to know how riders can skew those codes, either by
"punishing" their horses, or by "abusing" the codes. Both concepts are
out of my realm of experience or imagination, so please, cite specifics.
Otherwise, comments that include phrases like "whining" or "get over
it" will continue to come to mind.

I don't mind your disagreeing with me--I'd just like to know what it is
we disagree about. Please, again, enlighten me as to how riders skew
pull codes, on a properly run ride. Truman reports that the vets
understand the pull codes in his region, and with an occasional
exception (again, misuse, not abuse) I've seen them properly applied
here as well. Is there something going on in other regions that is
different?

Heidi
