Just talked to my farrier. The American Farrier's Association (or
something like that) recruited him along with 16 others to go down and
trim the horses who are still unclaimed from Katrina...230...or was it
280? He said at last count. Soon they plan to put them up for adoption. I
thought that was interesting. Looks like they'd start a website for
claiming them or something.

Also, just read that for hurricane Rita they said they'd "learned their
lesson" and are allowing people to take their pets in carriers with them
as they evacuate in busses...that refusing the pets was what had kept
many people in New Orleans.
