[RC] Headache "causes" - Rebecca HackworthSomeone was just talking about DRINKING WATER helping her Migranes. Just have to pass along my observations as a Nurse and a Headache / Migrane sufferer. Spinal headaches (the kind caused by spinal anesthesia) have as symptoms.....headache, worse with light, when upright, with loud sounds. Sounds suspiciously like a migrane doesn't it. Well, treatment is LOTS AND LOTS OF IV FLUIDS or orally if the patient doesn't have an IV. The second part of the treatment is Caffeine. Well, I started watching and low and behold, 2litres of then a shot of caffeine (like a Mt Dew or cup of coffee) and 95% of my headaches also stopped. The rest went away when I started taking small amounts of Blood Pressure meds for slightly elevated BP's. Took the rest of them away. I have watched many patients from pediatrics to geriatrics and looked near death only to look PERKY after IV fluids being the only treatment. Having worked Labor and Delivery for many years, we assumed ANYONE that had labored at home at all was dry. My rule of thumb was 1 liter dry at least. I have since decided that most of us are that dry on any given day and time. Now if I start feeling crummy I immediatly start looking for the water. I don't think increasing fluids is ever a problem unless you are a Congestive Heart failure or Kidney dialysis patient. Otherwise, probably better off drinking a lot more. Instructions to patients usually involve the comment.....If your pee looks like water, fine. If not drink more.
