[RC] serious injury - GarnerTJust an update on my horse, Taz. We went back to the vet for another ultra sound. I had earmarked a spot on the previous ultrasound to look for this time. When he was ultrasounded at the end of July, the collateral ligament was motheaten & torn. There was a hole that looked like a bullet hole; I thought that would be easy to spot for the next time. Well, we looked & looked & finally saw a tiny tiny spot that we thought was the previous hole. It was much better. The rest of the ligament was still motheaten in appearance; but I was satisfied to see some signs of healing. I had told myself not to expect much in only 1 month, so I was pleased. We still have a long way to go. It's going to take a long time to heal; but I'm in it for the long run. He's never really been headbobbing lame; just short strided. When he turns sharply, then you can see it hurts him. Since he's not in a lot of pain, it makes it easier to see him standing around. I can tell he's lonesome & wondering just what's going on. He'll get a lot of TLC & brushing. I might put the saddle on, just so he doesn't forget what his job is! He's still confined and we're letting nature do it's thing. In a month and a half, we'll go back. We'll reevaluate at that time. (the vet wants every month, but at $200 a pop, I can't afford that.) Thanks again for all the positive & informational emails; I really appreciate them!
