My horse is only 13.3, she's easy on. But, when she went lame and I started riding my mother's BIG TWH, he's about 16.1 maybe 16.2 I couldn't get on and off. I usually use a mounting block, but started weaning myself down from the third step of the block, to the second, and down to the first, then on the ground. Worked to help me "learn" to mount from the ground. I still use a block, when avaliable, but can get on and off from the trail if I have to!
