- New Orleans Mounted Police and stuff
Good
morning everyone,
Just
thought I would update you guys on some information I found out this weekend.
The carriage horses and mules from New
Orleans went thru a very trying ordeal - the whole
story can be read at www.thehorse.com,
just to let you know of the 22 they evacuated 2 did not make it but thanks to
the efforts of the barn staff the rest are now safe. There is a very moving
story about a quarter horse that swam for 2 hours to get one of these barn
managers to safety to receive needed medical care. I have also been in contact
with Officer Debbie Weaver of the New Orleans Mounted Police - they were able
to evacuate all 29 horses of the squad prior to the storm. They are now being
housed in the arena at the Washington Parish Fairground in Louisiana. While the horses have enough
supplies for the next month their human riders have suffered significant
personal losses. They are asking for donations for the displaced police
officers as well. If you would like to make a monetary contribution to the New
Orleans Mounted Police you can send checks or money orders made out to: NOPD
Mounted Competition Disaster Fund c/o Officer Debbie Weaver 47097 Hwy 1072,
Franklinton, LA 70438 indicate on the bottom left of the check if you want it
given to the horses or the officers. I have Officer Weavers telephone number as
well if you wish to assist in other ways. E-mail me if you want it.
Thanks,
Pam
