Re: [RC] the cost to riders & fuel avalabilty - LAWRENCEC BENNASCONI

Title: AOL Email
The reason that some stations only have premium or plus is that is all they can get! What is really happening is that folks are getting to buy premium at some stations because that is all the gas haulers can load and they are dumping it in the regular tank! Here in NC, the reason that so many stations ran out is because every one panicked. If everyone goes running to fill up on the same day, WE WOULD RUN OUT UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES!! So many stations are out because people panicked. Just like in Iraq, where almost 1,000 are dead because some one yelled "bomb!" and people were trampled to death.
How many more drivers are there in this country since 1977 when the last refinery was built? How many folks drive SUVs for no reason other than a status symbol? They never haul or tow anything, just drive around all day getting 8mpg. The tree huggers don't want to drill for oil anywhere, nor do they want new refineries built. Bush did just sign a bill to have a new one built, but it just barely passed. Fuel prices, like any other commodity is regulated largely by supply and demand.
Regular sells faster than plus or premium, so with the pipeline at partial capacity (and it IS up and running, my husband hauls gas) so that is just all that was left. If folks would just do their part and not panic we could have avoided this to some degree. Friday I still saw travel trailers headed out of town, so apparently the prices aren't high enough yet to get every one's attention!

now the reason premium is all they have in Fl. is the regulation standards (i.e.=87 octane 89/92)  are suspended officially to help fuel suppliers "provide" (maybe larger profits?) in Fl. so what is available is likely 87 being sold as premium)
