Re: [RC] Brenderup questions--Laney - Sisu West Ranch"....inertia brakes..."Inertia or surge brakes have been used on USA made trailers for more than 30 years. My first horse trailer had them. It was made in the '60's. Today many small boat trailers use them. They work very well, perhaps better than electric brakes. They are used in boat trailers because they don't short out in the water. They went out of favor on horse trailers because they cost more than electric. Electric brakes work fine if you purchase and install the proper controler. Remember the cost of the controller is not the trailer manufacturer's responsibility. Many lazy persons do not install or maintain brake controllers, and thus drive down the highway both unsafely, and not following the law.
