[RC] Forerunner and two horse trailer - Tracey SmithI have a fellow boarder at my barn that tows with this combo. She has a 2005 Forerunner with the "towing package" (so she says) and tows a two horse slant load aluminum trailer. She does have trailer brakes and says it hauls fine with one or two horses...but I can tell you I rode in it with her once last fall right after she got it as she volunteered to haul to some local trails only about 15 or so miles from our barn. I'd say it pulled "okay" but sure did sound like that engine was working hard on hills. Granted we are in Texas so the "hills" consisted of the exit and entrance ramps to the freeway...and even that seemed to be a bit of a challenge. Seemed like it stopped "okay" too....but then we never had to do a fast stop or evasive action....but I did tell her after that, that I really think she's best served only pulling one horse in that trailer. Told her next time if she really wanted to take her trailer (because her horse is a bad loader and will not do a straight load) that I think we'd be safer pulling it with my 1 ton! She just kinda rolled her eyes and I am sure she thinks I am being "overcautions'...but can you really be? As has been said too many times...you can never be OVER-trucked...but you sure can be UNDER-trucked. My little two horse bp straightload may look silly behind my big old F350 crewcab dually...but at least I know I can stop when and where I need to.
